Civil Peace Service .
The Civil Peace Service (CPS) is a Program on conflict transformation and peace building. Established in 1999, it has proven to be a successful instrument for civil society based peace building within the framework of the German Development Service.

The overarching goal of the CPS is to reduce or prevent violence, foster understanding and contribute towards sustainable, just peace in cooperation with local partners. CPS is strengthening local capacities for peace by seconding Peace Building Advisors to partner organizations.
Since 2004 CPS is strenghtening civil society as an actor for peace in Mindanao. DED Peace Building Advisors support partner organizations in the fields of peace education, peace advocacy, dialogue across conflict lines, social re-integration and research on local mechanisms of non-violent conflict resolution.
Example Knowledge Solves Conflicts .
Rido (a local term for clan feuds) between hostile families or ethnic groups intensifies conflicts in war-torn Mindanao. To better understand rido mechanisms, a DED Peace Building Advisor supported a civil society organization in research on rido-based clan conflicts. The genealogical data of 50 familiy clans were carefully collected, analyzed and successfully used to support traditional village chiefs in setting up local mediation boards to settle clan conflicts in a non-violent way.
